The island of tunø
Tunø is a small island with a hallmark shape. It lies of the coast of the Jutland peninsula in Denmark. The island is characterised by an island mentality of living life with a conscious pace. The one hundred people living on the island do so with a special respect for the nature and surroundings. In the summer the island is lush and green, the ocean mild and clear and the skies sunny. During winter the ocean gets darker, wilder and the ascetics of the island become pleasantly gloomy.
Another gathering point on the island is the small harbour which lies a little east of the town of Tunø By. On the marina there is space for around 170 boats. From the harbour there is a daily ferry bringing people back and fourth from the mainland.
Life on Tunø takes place at a different pace from what is found in the cities. Tunø’s residents have a unity that is characteristic for small island communities where people, to a greater extent, rely on the help of neighbours and friends for managing life’s unexpected problems.
Tunø is a car-free island which means that people bike or walk wherever they go. It is a very special quality that gives the island a unique atmosphere. Visitors come by on their own boats or by ferry to enjoy the special vibe and magnificent nature.
For us, as a group of friends, the island has come to symbolise these values and much more. That is why we create designs inspired by Tunø and the reason we want to give back to the island for hosting us every year.
Our goal is to connect the people sharing these values and to encourage living life with level of awareness and respect for the people and environment that always surrounds us. We hope you want to share your moments of friendship with us.
